Carrie A. Seaman was a Boston lawyer for 20 years who settled in Provincetown and opened a private law practice with her husband, Joseph. In 1971 she helped to found the Provincetown Animal Shelter. Her caring for unwanted animals continued even beyond her death at the age of 84. Hoping to create a legacy of compassionate care for homeless animals in the Provincetown/Truro areas, she bequeathed money for an animal shelter.
Today, a group of dedicated volunteers under the leadership of the Board of CASAS continues her work and dream of a no-kill animal shelter for the Provincetown, Truro, Wellfleet and Eastham areas.
