After functioning as a “shelter without a shelter" since 2002, the Carrie A. Seaman Animal Shelter (CASAS) purchased a single family home in April, 2005 for the first phase of our program. Soon we will have a no-kill, privately funded, nonprofit, limited-access shelter in Provincetown.

In the last five years over $425,000 has been raised towards this goal and in April, 2002 a Town Meeting article was unanimously approved by Provincetown voters giving our Selectmen authority to lease CASAS town-owned land on a long-term basis - a very exciting outcome! However available buildable land is scarce in Provincetown and building costs continue to rise. When this property came on the market, it seemed a perfect way to start our quest.

Our shelter is not yet open to house animals, as we are busy painting, updating appliances, and replacing rugs with animal-friendly flooring. We hope to house animals in Fall, 2006.

CASAS (run wholly by volunteers) continues to provide several services to the community, including a reduced rate spay/neuter program, foster and adoption services and assistance with feral cat situations. CASAS regularly gets calls to find new homes for displaced house pets and abandoned cats, who must scrounge for food, and struggle to stay alive, but often become prey for coyotes. Our foster homes are consistently full.

Future plans include establishing a pet-food pantry, an in-school education program for students, and an animal therapy program for seniors while we continue our Fund Raising Events. Our ongoing focus is to work with the community to determine what is needed for the ultimate care and well-being of animals.

CASAS is a 501(c) 3, charitable, tax exempt corporation. Donations, including land, equipment or buildings, are tax deductible, to the extent allowed by the law. Please consider CASAS in your estate planning. Donations and inquiries can be sent to:
